Interaction with all the senses

Under the slogan “Interaction with all the senses,” the Interaction Lab at Fraunhofer IAO is a poster child for human-machine interaction. Visitors with a background in science or industry can view and experience recent developments in the institute’s exhibition area.

Whether customers, partners or scientists – the lab serves as a common platform for developing and testing innovative approaches and ideas for people interested in human-machine interaction.

Research topics

The Interaction Lab fulfills various purposes. As an interactive showroom, it acts as a forum for presenting experimental interaction techniques. Intuitive exhibits encourage visitors to participate and experience the technology first hand. Together with our customers and partners, we are exploring novel approaches and techniques for human-machine interaction. Innovative ideas can be implemented quickly and then evaluated under laboratory conditions.

Current exhibits at the lab include:

  • Innovative self-service concepts
  • Interaction with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) systems
  • Future technologies for Human-Machine Interaction (HMI) in the industrial sector

Equipment

The technical equipment at the Interaction Lab comprises a modern variety of multimodal interaction options ranging from gestures and haptics to speech and Mixed Reality Interfaces.

The layout of the Interaction Lab allows the space to be adapted to a specific application. The extensive range of equipment can be utilized to create scenarios ranging from the living room to stores of the future.
