The  „eXtended Environments“ team is shaping the future of connected digital-physical spaces and developing pioneering solutions at the intersection of extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence, robotics, and new business models. The focus is on digital twins, urban avatars, virtual human twins, and urban metaverse applications that serve as strategic tools for transformation, innovation, and value creation.

The content focus is on the design and transformation of complex urban systems (in smart cities, real estate and neighborhood development, culture, tourism, and related urban ecosystems). The interdisciplinary team is researching, how immersive environments can bring about lasting change in real-world decision-making, planning, and usage contexts. In addition to application-oriented research, the team is driving forward experimental innovation development and transfer into business, administration, and society.
