How the IT workstation of the future will look

Workplace design is slowly conquering the conventional combination of computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse. More and more frequently, desk and room are morphing into a seamless digital desktop, such as at an engineer’s planning table or in meeting spaces and project rooms. At the same time, ways of working are changing, for instance through home offices or collaborative work across locations.

At Fraunhofer IAO, we research and develop digital work environments that provide the best possible support in various working situations, both in engineering and in other fields. This includes individual or collaborative work at multi-touch workstations, local or geographically distributed ad hoc meetings, the merging of 2D and 3D data and much more.

We help our clients by

  • identifying individual digital work space requirements
  • developing tailored end-to-end solutions drawing on the relevant hardware and software, and
  • assisting with implementation and evaluation.

Developed by Fraunhofer IAO, VD1 software facilitates the integration and use of all standard application programs. Display environments can be designed any way you want – going far beyond the capabilities of today’s computer workstations.
