Integrating customers, partners and experts in innovation processes

Open innovation is in: Large companies are increasingly opening up their innovation processes outside the company and taking strategic advantage of the knowledge and creativity of external partners. This increases input, strengthens customers’ brand loyalty and creates products with particular consumer acceptance.

At Fraunhofer IAO, we help companies to make structured and profitable use of cooperative innovation techniques. Our work focuses on the early stages of idea generation, idea evaluation and concept development.

We assist our customers by

  • systemically evaluating relevant topics and deviations from the norm that lead to new ideas,
  • identifying specific external value-adding partners, such as key customers, advanced users, knowledge carriers and experts from the Fraunhofer network,
  • organizing tailored formats and methods for collaborative idea generation with events such as World Café, future workshop and design thinking workshops, etc., and
  • providing neutral support for evaluating the ideas that were generated and setting them in motion.

We aim to implement such co-creation models for long-term use in our customers’ innovation systems.
