The idea behind Cloud Mall Baden-Württemberg is to create a platform for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) on which cloud service providers can position their products and services and users can select the cloud services relevant to them. The result is an open, end-to-end cloud ecosystem that integrates infrastructure services, extended platform services and software applications. To build up SMEs’ trust in cloud solutions, the Cloud Mall BW is creating sector-specific cloud offers that cover the many individual needs that companies have and thus increase acceptance among the respective target groups. The suitability of offers is being examined in pilot scenarios for three sectors.
The target groups for the pilot scenarios are:
Small companies and startups
Retail trading companies
Manufacturing companies with a focus on optimizing production (Industrie 4.0) and developing intelligent, connected products and services
Within the three networks, research is underway into important questions on application and industry-specific topics. User support functions and potential solutions are also being presented. The cloud computing applications and services facilitate the companies’ everyday activities, giving them more time to devote to their core business.
This research aims to develop new business models and concepts to help SMEs improve the efficiency of their business processes and enhance the effectiveness of their information and communications technology while reducing costs. There are also plans to establish innovation networks for these industries, in which important topics concerning cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) are addressed for companies using the technology and cloud service providers. The networks will also serve as forums for conferring and networking with experts on these topics. Using a wealth of different transfer formats will ensure that relevant cloud computing knowledge and experience is shared with SMEs in a targeted and effective manner, and motivate them to participate in the activities. To create a transparent and trustworthy offer for providers and users alike, all cloud services are subject to established quality requirements, regardless of whether they feature cloud-based software or hardware.
