Facilities and Resources

The Fraunhofer IAO carries out research on a task and results-oriented basis. Our aim is to implement innovations in both industry and society by working in a dynamic equilibrium between application-oriented basic research and innovative development. The key pillars of our success are our employees, with their diverse range of skills, their commitment and their methodological expertise. Operating under a joint management team, around 500 staff – primarily engineers, computer scientists, economists and social scientists – work together on an interdisciplinary basis at the Fraunhofer IAO and its cooperation partner the Institute for Human Factors and Technology Management (IAT) at the University of Stuttgart.

In addition, we see an efficient, state-of-the-art infrastructure as being an essential prerequisite for performing research of the highest quality. That is why new ideas and findings from research projects are funneled into our innovative research and demonstration centers to be translated into practical applications. Future trends can be experienced at first hand in modern office spaces and laboratories covering more than 10,500 m2.
