Research topicsFew things have changed our world as much as mobility. It is the driving force shaping our cities and behind the processes that are such a part of our daily lives and work. In future, our mobility systems will undergo rapid changes as a result of exciting developments in sustainable electromobility, common usage concepts, ubiquitous digitization, growing metropolises, and intermodal infrastructure. This process of change requires innovative concepts and revolutionary ideas to enable a transition to an emissions-free, interconnected, and electric mobility. The research scientists at the Fraunhofer IAO’s Mobility Innovation Lab are carrying out interdisciplinary work on these topics in several areas of research. Bilateral projects and innovation networks with industry and local government partners ensure that visionary and demandoriented ideas come to be implemented.
FacilitiesThe Mobility Innovation Lab incorporates a great variety of different kinds of research in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the mobility systems of tomorrow. On top of technically oriented topics such as the development of charging infrastructures, micro-mobility solutions, and communication interfaces for user interaction, researchers are also developing solutions for innovative planning tools and architectural visions for mobility in urban areas. To realize these projects, the laboratory offers high-quality infrastructure for prototype production, vehicle diagnostics, model simulations, and collaborative software and concept development.
