Network: pooling strengths for sustainable succes

Creating tight networks with industry and scientific partners is a key factor in our ability to continuously transform new ideas into top performance. We collaborate closely with our branch labs and network partners on specific research topics.

Branch labs

Fraunhofer Center for Responsible Research and Innovation CeRRI, Berlin
CeRRI develops new approaches and methods to identify promising research trajectories and to focus research agendas and projects on social requirements in an early stage of R&D processes.

Fraunhofer Innovation Engineering Center IEC, Bozen (Italy)
Intensive collaboration with other research institutions of outstanding merit is a key prerequisite for ensuring ongoing excellence in an institution's performance.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen location
Investigating eMobility potential in rural regions that thrive on tourism poses particular challenges that demand excellent, cutting edge research. We opened our Fraunhofer branch lab in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2012 in order to map out this potential and examine the opportunities for electric transportation in such locations.

KEIM Fraunhofer application center, Esslingen
We created the KEIM Fraunhofer application center together with Hochschule Esslingen University of Applied Sciences in order to strengthen the links between the research and academic communities.

LOGWERT – Competence Center for Logistics and Added Value, Heilbronn
Launched in early 2015, the LOGWERT competence center combines Fraunhofer IAO’s expertise in mobility and urban systems engineering with Heilbronn University’s specialist knowledge of logistics.

EFTEK – Center for Technology Management, Friedrichshafen
Our joint Center for Technology Management – eftek, supports companies in the Lake Constance region with a comprehensive range of services for recognizing and evaluating future technological trends as they emerge and for developing technological strategies for tomorrow's innovations.

Collaborations

Network office in Cluj-Napoca (Romania)
Fraunhofer IAO has been running a network office in Cluj to provide on-site support since July 1, 2014.

Reutlingen University
At the core of the collaboration with Reutlingen University’s EBS Business School is the link between education and research in the area of technology and innovation management.

The Fraunhofer network: Service which meets requirements

The IAO’s skills profile is particularly enhanced by its tightly-meshed links with other Fraunhofer institutes, which is one of the reasons we are associated with organizations such as the Fraunhofer Information and Communication Technology Group, which is the largest ICT research group in Europe. We also have close connections to the institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft that focus on production engineering. For example, the Fraunhofer IAO has successfully collaborated with the Fraunhofer IPA plus a current total of more than 30 business partners to establish the Digital Production innovation cluster.
Institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with their various areas of expertise also cooperate within the scope of Fraunhofer alliances and networks, where they join forces to develop and promote new, innovative research topics. The Fraunhofer IAO is involved in the following alliances and networks:

Further networks

Thanks to its intensive collaboration with other research institutions and the organizations represented within the networks, it succeeds in promoting both scientifically-oriented research and applied implementation of new instruments and methods in workplace practices.
