KI4ROBOFLEET

Challenge

The transport sector is undergoing a radical change, with advances in digitalization and automation now forcing a rethink of today’s business models. Tomorrow’s vehicles will be autonomous. Rather than being restricted to a single purpose, they will therefore be suitable for a variety of tasks. For example, autonomous vehicles from a car-share fleet could also be used to transport deliveries during periods when they are not required for conveying passengers. The complex control systems required to operate autonomous vehicles – and deploy them in different scenarios – rely on artificial intelligence. The KI4ROBOFLEET project aims to evaluate the requisite AI technology and identify potential scenarios that will arise as a result of the use of autonomous vehicles in vehicle fleets.

Method

The project has a two-year time frame. Its purpose is to analyze the operations of the car-share operator Stadtmobil Rhein Neckar, draw up a portfolio of user/usage profiles and assess these for their applicability in further scenarios. This will enable the identification of potential applications and their evaluation according to economic and ecological criteria. In addition, the project team is exploring potential applications for suitable AI technology and self-learning algorithms and is conducting traffic simulations in order to produce a dynamic analysis and evaluation of specific application scenarios.

Result

The aim of the KI4ROBOFLEET project is to identify and evaluate potential application scenarios that will arise from the inclusion of autonomous vehicles in vehicle fleets. The project team is also carrying out traffic simulations to enable a dynamic and real-time evaluation of application scenarios. Finally, the project is developing car-sharing ICTs that enable the incorporation of AI in specific applications.
